What about the carbon footprint used to make my turbine?
Various studies have shown that the energy used in the manufacture of a wind turbine is recovered in the first 8-10 months of operation.
Who owns Windmine Ltd?
Windmine is a limited company founded in 2006. The business is owned and managed by Paul Mines, an engineer by training and CEO of a private equity backed international business for the past decade. He is now focused on bringing economic renewable energy to homes and businesses.
Do I lose any power through transmission on the National Grid?
The System Power losses of the National Grid are typically around 2% so only only a tiny fraction of power is lost. This is outweighed many times over by having your turbine in a windy location.
What does an 11kw wind turbine mean?
Wind turbines are rated at their maximum output conditions - for the Gaia turbine is at a wind speed of 10-12 metres/second. 1kw or kilowatt means a 1000watts or the equivalent of 10, 100W light bulbs. So on a windy day your 11kw turbine can power 110 100watt light bulbs!
How will my arrangement with Windmine be documented?
You will be supplied with a detailed contract covering all eventualities to read and sign before you are asked to part with any money.
Can I move my turbine to my own home if I move to a bigger house?
Yes – this is only advised if you have a location that is very windy
Can I sell my turbine?
You will be able to sell your turbine after the first 2 years. There will be a small administration cost from Windmine.
Could my turbine break?
This is very unlikely. The turbine is covered by a manufactures warrantee for the first 2 years and only has a few moving parts.
What does 20,000kwh mean?
This is the minimum expected total output of the turbine in a year kilowatt hours. It is a measure of the total output of the turbine and is the equivalent of the turbine operating for at 2.28kw for the full 8760 hours in year. In reality sometime the turbine will be at full power at 11kw and occasionally it will be stopped
Will by turbine definitely produce 20,000kwh in a year?
Almost certainly as the site has been chosen to exceed this figure. Crucially, however, performance depends on weather patterns and outputs may vary by up to 25% from year to year.
Will I notice a quality difference in my home electrical supply?
No, if you are already connected to the National Grid you will continue to receive your current service level.
